Wilson Palacios Honduran Footballer Plays Premier League

Wilson Palacios Honduran Footballer Plays Premier League
Wilson Roberto Palacios Suazo (born 29 July 1984) is a Honduran footballer who plays for English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. Born in La Ceiba, he played for Victoria and Olimpia in Honduras before moving to England where he played for Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic. In 2009 he joined Tottenham Hotspur, generally playing central midfield as he did for previous club Wigan, unlike at Olimpia where he played on the right of midfield. He has been a regular player for Honduras since 2003, helping them qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals for only the second time in their history. He is the brother of Milton Palacios, Jerry Palacios, Johnny Palacios and Edwin Rene Palacios. On 30 October 2007, his 16-year-old brother (at the time) Edwin was kidnapped by five armed men from the family home in La Ceiba. In November 2007, the family paid a £125,000 ransom and it was reported that the boy had been released, but this proved not to be the case.

In January 2009, Palacios' mother made a televised appeal for the kidnappers to open communication with the family, expressing her need to find out if Edwin was still alive, her fears that Palacios' big-money transfer to Tottenham would only strengthen the kidnappers' demands, and a request for help from the British authorities. She stressed that Palacios' team received the transfer fee but the player has only his salary, and that the family's situation is distressing for him

On 8 May 2009 it was announced that, following a confession from two leaders of the 18th Street gang, police had found a body in the municipality of El Paraíso which they believed to be the remains of Edwin. Palacios returned home to Honduras the following day on compassionate leave. On 28 May 2009, the DNA results on his brother's remains came back positive. They buried him the following day in La Ceiba, Honduras. On 30 May 2009, despite his loss, he joined the Honduran National Team to train in preparation for the World Cup Qualifying games against the U.S.A and El Salvador.

Michel Bastos Brazilian Best Footballer Plays

Michel Bastos Brazilian Best Footballer Plays
Michel Fernandes Bastos (born 2 August 1983), commonly referred to as Michel Bastos, is a Brazilian football player who currently plays for Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1. He primarily plays as a winger capable of playing on either side of the field, but stars as a left back for the Brazil national team. Bastos made his national team debut on 14 November 2009 against England in Doha, Qatar.

Bastos was born in the Brazilian city of Pelotas and began his career playing for hometown club Esporte Clube Pelotas. In 2001, he moved to the Netherlands joining Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam playing for the Jong Feyenoord, the club's reserve section. Following a loan stint at nearby Excelsior Rotterdam, he returned to Brazil joining Atlético Paranaense. Bastos later played for Grêmio and Figueirense before deciding to return to Europe.

Prior to joining Lyon, Bastos had never been called up to the Seleção, despite his consistent play with his previous club Lille. Bastos cited his move to Lyon as an important factor in attempting to earn a spot on Brazil's 2010 FIFA World Cup team. On 27 October 2009, Bastos was selected, for the very first time, to the national team for friendly matches against England and Oman. He made his national team debut in the England match starting in the left back position. Bastos later started in the same position in Brazil's next two friendly matches against Oman and the Republic of Ireland in February 2010 and, on 11 May 2010, was subsequently named to the 23-man squad to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. On 2 June, Bastos scored his first international goal in Brazil's 3–0 rout of Zimbabwe.

Per Mertesacker German Footballer Top Defender Plays

Per Mertesacker German Footballer Top Defender Plays
Per Mertesacker (born 29 September 1984 in Hannover) is a German footballer who plays as a defender for Werder Bremen and the Germany national football team. Despite his sometimes intimidating height, his game is unusually clean for a defender, evident by his relatively few bookings. He is known for having a penchant of scoring headers from set-pieces and corners due to his height advantage.

In September 2004, Jürgen Klinsmann, then-manager of Germany, called Mertesacker up to the 9 October 2004 game against Iran. He made his debut less than two weeks after his twentieth birthday when he came on as a second-half substitute for Christian Wörns. With his quiet but effective game, he established himself as Germany's first choice centre-back, pairing up with Robert Huth, Christoph Metzelder, and later, Heiko Westermann. At the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup hosted at home, he played the full 90 minutes in all five games and scored a goal in the group stages as Germany won third place.

At the World Cup 2006 on home soil, Mertesacker paired with Metzelder in central defence. After Germany won the quarter-final penalty shoot-out against Argentina, Mertesacker was attacked by Argentine Leandro Cufré, an unused substitute. He suffered minor injuries to his thigh and a kick to the groin. After Germany's loss to Italy in the semifinals, Mertesacker had surgery on one of his legs (not related to the attack above, but an injury he had been dealing with during previous matches) and missed the third place play-off. Nevertheless, his good showing did earn him a transfer to Bundesliga giants Werder Bremen after the tournament. He was first choice when fit during Euro 2008 and was ever present in the final tournament. Due to injury problems at the beginning of the 2009–10 season, he missed several 2010 World Cup qualifiers but has retained his place as first choice since then.

Arne Friedrich German Football Top Defender Plays

Arne Friedrich German Football Top Defender Plays
Arne Friedrich (German pronunciation:, born 29 May 1979) is a German football defender, who currently plays for Hertha BSC and the German national football team. As of May 2010, the Hertha BSC captain has represented his country on 70 occasions, his debut coming in the 2–2 draw against Bulgaria in Sofia, on 21 August 2002.

He was included in the 23-man squad in 2006 World Cup, where Germany finished third. Friedrich started almost every game and was very instrumental in getting Germany to the Third Place match. He is a very versatile player, playing full back, center back, and occasionally a more midfield position. He was also called up to Germany's Euro 2008 squad.

In March 2009, Germany coach Joachim Löw explained that he now planned Friedrich as a centre back instead of the unpopular right wing back position. As of 5 September 2009, when he earned his 67th international cap, Friedrich is the most-capped German international to have never scored. Since making his international debut for Germany back in 2002, as of 3 June 2010, he has earned 72 caps for the Senior side.

Manuel Neuer Goalkeeper of German Footballer Plays

Manuel Neuer Goalkeeper of German Footballer Plays
Manuel Neuer (born 27 March 1986 in Gelsenkirchen) is a German footballer and the current goalkeeper of Schalke 04. Neuer's hero and idol as a child was fellow German and former Schalke goalkeeper Jens Lehmann. He is considered to be one of the most talented young German keepers.

After progressing through the youth teams, Neuer made his U-21 debut on 15 August 2006 against the Netherlands. He won the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship with the Germany national under-21 football team in Sweden and kept a clean sheet in the final against England.

Neuer was called-up on 19 May 2009 to the senior Germany squad for a tour of Asia. He made his debut on this tour in a match against United Arab Emirates on 2 June. He played in the November friendly against the Ivory Coast that ended 2–2. Although he took responsibility for the first goal conceded, manager Joachim Löw refused to blame him and instead commended him for doing his best.

The shocking death of keeper Robert Enke in November 2009 saw him elevated as the second choice goalkeeper under René Adler. However, Adler suffered a serious rib injury which ruled out of the World Cup. Neuer was then called to become Germany's No.1 goalkeeper ahead of Tim Wiese and Hans-Jörg Butt for the upcoming tournament.
