Her first tournament for the clay court season was scheduled to be the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, but she was forced to withdraw due to a left wrist injury. Instead, her first event on clay was the Mutua Madrid Open where she reached the second round after beating Ekaterina Makarova before losing to Roberta Vinci after sustaining a knee injury. In the third round she faced and beat the 18th seed Andrea Petkovic in straight sets for her first win over a seeded player at a grand slam since 2012. Wozniacki came up against former world number 1 and former champion Maria Sharapova in the forth round. Wozniacki won in three sets on a score line of 6-4 2-6 6-2 to progress to the quarter final of a grand slam for the first time since the Australian Open, where she was top seed. She next then faced Italian Sara Errani whom she easily accounted for in blustery conditions on a score line of 6-0 6-1. Her next opponent will be Peng Shuai in the Semi Finals.
